I needed an animator for a project due yesterday!!!!

The following is brought to you by Lauren Brown, a fellow animation MFA and friend at USC.

"I love the jobs that get sent our way here at USC. I got a great one today. Here are just a few excerpts out of his giant [4 page] email.

* “I have written a screenplay for an animated movie that uses the Pink Floyd albums “Meddle” and “Dark Side of the Moon” as the soundtrack — similar to what Walt Disney did with “Fantasia.” There’s one significant difference between my movie and what was done in “Fantasia.” That is, in mine there is a cohesive story that goes from beginning to end; it’s not just isolated vignettes. ” You mean The Wall?

* “Think of the final movie as something with even more of a visual impact than “Avatar,” but with an additional factor that “Avatar” completely lacked — I’m speaking of */the deep, powerful soul/* that the music of Pink Floyd will provide.” Yeah, lets make Avatar, but better, with no budget. Guhh, Avatar. Now every Tom, Dick, and film school student wants to make Avatar, which it’s director doesn’t even consider animation.

* “Because I know that a 6½- minute full-on animation would be incredibly time-consuming and expensive. So what I need is more or less a “video sales brochure” that I can show to the above-mentioned Pink Floyd manager — something that will make him see and feel what my proposed movie is all about, without making it into a too-complicated production. ” That’s called an animatic.

* “Therefore, even though theater-ready animation uses 24 frames/second, maybe 4 or 6 frames/second would work here — just so long as the viewer wouldn’t get dizzy or nauseated.” What?

* “I cannot afford to pay you any money at all upfront.” Then sign me up!

* “I envision the actual movie being done with absolutely top-notch animation, and that it will be the movie of the decade! (Yeah, I know, it’s bragging.)” Oh go on.

* Now where are you? Wausau, Wisconsin Well, good luck to you sir.

People are ignorant about what it takes to make animation. Specially skilled teams of people take lots of time to make this stuff happen. Why do you think I’m going to make your story by myself for free?"

PS, the animator has to provide his/her own copy of the Pink Floyd song.
PPS, the rights to animate to this song have not been obtained. :)
