Pumpkin Season

Apparently the First Day of Fall was back on Sept 22. With 2012 possibly being the hottest year on record and the backs of my knees telling me it's at least 85 degrees in the studio (outside the 3ft radius of the AC), it does not feel anything like fall. But with October already upon us, I can no longer delay this post dedicated to my favorite squash- THE PUMPKIN! One can do so many tasty things with a pumpkin- pies, soups, breads, cheesecake -the list goes on.

So here I sit in summer wear, parked in front of the A/C, drinking an Iced Pumpkin Pie Latte wishing for a cold front. When sweater season arrives, I shall venture into other delicious pumpkin endeavors...

30 Day Drawing Challege - Day 2: 80s Movie

I was so torn! There are just too many of my favorites created during this time: Land Before Time (1988), Secret of Nihm (1982), Dragonslayer (1981), The Last Unicorn (1982), Unico (1981), The Return of the King (1980), Excalibur (1981), Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)...

In the end I went with The Last Unicorn.

I used to watch the beginning over and over and cry about "SHE'S THE LASSSTTTTT" so much that the start of my VHS burned out and doesn't play back very well. Yeah.

30 Day Drawing Challege - Day 1: Favorite Pet

My good friend Bryan Young has recently undertaken the 30 day drawing challenge and has inspired me to do the same! I'll do these as warm-ups before I begin my work. Here we go...

Felicia is my favorite pet, but she was definitely more like my sister than my pet. If I could have brought her to all my Natural Museum trips I would have.

Yes, I did have a dinosaur jumpsuit (thanks Mom!) and a Lip Smackers lipgloss necklace with Dr. Pepper, peppermint, pina colada, stawberry shortcake, and bubblegum favors...I still have an affection for those multicolored pens.

Whimsical Doodles & Sketchdump

There really is a velociraptor carousel (not all the animals are raptors, just the one). I rode it and it was magical.

Went to the LA NHM with Stan! It was full of fun dead things (much easier to draw than live things). I hear the greatest pearls of wisdom (or stupidity) while sketching at the Natural History Museum and at the zoo with the families and the different school groups that come through. The highlight of this particular trip was exclaimed by a boy around 6 years old, "Look at the Rhino! They're like Hippos..but like Dinosaurs!"
